历史
Medal of Honor 最早在 1861 年美国内战期间被授权设立。1863 年，美国国会将其定为永久性勋章。该奖章由美国总统代表国会颁发。自设立以来，仅颁发了约 3,500 枚。这种奖章有三种版本，分别对应陆军、海军与海军陆战队，以及空军。它佩戴在脖子上，地位高于所有其他奖章。在第一次世界大战和第二次世界大战期间，许多士兵因在重大战役中的英勇表现而获得 Medal of Honor。在后来的越南战争和阿富汗战争中，该奖章通常在获奖者在战斗中牺牲后才被颁发，因为获得它所要求的行为极其危险。每一位 Medal of Honor 的获奖者的名字都会被列入五角大楼的正式名单中。
