历史
Queen Wilhelmina 在 1941 年设立了 Flying Cross，旨在表彰那些从英国基地和海外领地执行任务的荷兰飞行员。在此奖章设立之前，飞行员只能获得一般的英勇奖章，但政府希望拥有一个类似于英国 Distinguished Flying Cross 的专门奖项。在第二次世界大战期间，机组人员执行了穿越欧洲的危险轰炸任务以及横跨太平洋的侦察飞行。那些在空战中表现出非凡勇气、出色驾驶技能和坚定忠诚的飞行员会被授予这枚银质十字勋章。战后，Flying Cross 也被授予在印度尼西亚和朝鲜战争期间服役的军事飞行员。它至今仍是荷兰武装部队为在作战区域执行任务的飞行员所颁发的最高航空荣誉。
