历史
与早期直接仿制苏联装备的中国装甲车不同，Type 63 是中国在20世纪50年代末至60年代自主研发的产品。军方当时需要一种轻型履带式运输车，既能在崎岖的地形上行驶，也能渡过河流。
该车在部队向火线推进时，可以保护车内士兵免受子弹和炮弹碎片的伤害。它能搭载一个完整的步兵班，并在顶部装有一挺重机枪用于自卫。在越南战争期间，中国向北越军队提供了大量的 Type 63，帮助他们在沼泽三角洲和丛林地带作战。它在冷战结束前一直处于服役状态。
