RPG-7 是苏联于 1961 年推出的一种肩扛式火箭筒。它的名字来源于俄语中手持式反坦克榴弹发射器的缩写。它通过平滑的金属管发射火箭弹，可以在几秒钟内重新装填并再次开火。
阿富汗在 20 世纪 70 年代从苏联获得了 RPG-7。当 1979 年苏联入侵阿富汗的战争开始后，这种武器随着通过巴基斯坦运送的新鲜补给，落入了圣战者战士手中。
RPG-7 成为那场战争中最令人恐惧的武器之一。战士们用它来对付苏联的装甲车、卡车、直升机，甚至是建筑物和山顶地堡。圣战者小队学会了从山区伏击车队，同时发射多枚火箭弹。直接命中可以摧毁一辆坦克，而且发射器重量很轻，一名战士就可以背着它翻越高山山口。
