オーストリア＝ハンガリー帝国は広大な山脈に囲まれていたため、軍には道のない場所でも移動できる大砲が必要でした。シュコダ社は、この難題を解決するためにSkoda 7.5 cm Gebirgskanone M.15を設計しました。この大砲は、爆発性の砲弾を崖の向こう側や山の隠れた割れ目へと直接撃ち込むことができました。
この大砲全体は、わずか数分でいくつかの小さな部品に分解できるよう設計されていました。兵士たちはこれらの部品をラバに載せたり、手で引いたりして、イタリア戦線の氷に覆われた頂上を越えていきました。山の尾根に設置されると、砲兵たちは武器を組み立て、眼下の敵陣地へ砲弾を雨のように降らせることができました。
この大砲は非常に便利で信頼性が高かったため、帝国が崩壊した後も長く愛用されました。いくつかのヨーロッパ諸国では、鹵獲したり受け継いだりしたM.15を、第二次世界大戦中ずっと使用し続けました。
