第二次世界大戦中、陸軍の砲兵隊は前進する戦車や装甲部隊と同じ速さで移動する必要がありました。この問題を解決するため、モントリオールの技術者たちはCanadian Ram戦車の車体を使用し、有名なBritish 25-pounder野砲をオープン型の装甲戦闘区画に搭載しました。
完成した車両はSextonと名付けられました。この車両は砲兵隊員に防弾の保護を提供しつつ、高爆発性砲弾を素早く発射し、射撃位置を変更し、敵の反撃を受ける前に別の場所へ移動することを可能にしました。
Sextonは1944年のノルマンディー上陸作戦から実戦に投入され、フランス、ベルギー、オランダ、そしてドイツを転戦しました。非常に信頼性が高かったため、カナダ軍および連合国軍は冷戦の初期まで現役で使用し続けました。
