西ドイツは1960年代後半、最前線でLeopard戦車を支援するためにMarderを開発しました。それまでの輸送車両は装甲が薄かったのですが、Marderは敵の砲弾を防ぐ強力な前面装甲を備えた、本格的な歩兵戦闘車として製造されました。\n\n車両の中には歩兵が乗り込み、すぐに降りて徒歩で戦うことができました。この車両は20ミリ自動砲と、装甲目標を破壊するための対戦車ミサイルを装備していました。Marderは冷戦時代を通じて、西ドイツの防衛計画における重要な兵器であり続けました。
