歴史
M16小銃シリーズが広く実戦で使われたのは、ベトナム戦争が最初です。1980年代になると、軍は改良型のM16A2を採用しました。このモデルでは、プラスチック部品がより頑丈になり、照準器が改善され、新しい弾薬に対応するために銃身が太くなりました。nn湾岸戦争では、何十万人もの連合軍兵士が、このM16A2を主な個人用火器として使用しました。大きな変更点として、フルオート射撃ができなくなり、弾薬を節約するために3発ずつ発射するバースト射撃に切り替えられました。nn兵士たちは、定期的に砂を取り除きさえすれば、乾燥した砂漠の気候でもこの銃は信頼できると感じていました。この銃は、1990年代を通じてアメリカ軍の最前線で使われる標準的な小銃であり続けました。
