Lewis Gunは第一次世界大戦中に開発され、第二次世界大戦を通じて重要な防衛兵器として使用されました。シンガポールでは、地元の義勇軍や沿岸防衛大隊がこの空冷式機関銃を設置し、海岸や滑走路、市街地の道路を守りました。
この銃は、独特な銃身冷却カバーと、上に載った円形のドラム缶のような弾倉が特徴です。義勇兵たちは1942年2月の戦いで、島が陥落する前に迫りくる日本軍の航空機や上陸部隊と戦うため、Lewis Gunの訓練を熱心に行いました。
