歴史
1960年代初頭、インドネシアは数多くの島々を守るために強力な海軍の構築を目指していました。ソビエト連邦は、この巨大なSverdlov-class軽巡洋艦をインドネシアに売却し、艦名はKRI Irianと改められました。
当時、東南アジアで最大かつ最も重武装の軍艦のひとつでした。この艦の就役は、冷戦の緊張が高まる中、インドネシアが地域において無視できない海軍力を持っていることを他国に示しました。
しかし、このような巨大な艦を維持することは困難で、費用もかかりました。数年後に退役して最終的に解体されましたが、今でもインドネシア海軍史において有名な存在として語り継がれています。
