歴史
1965年にシンガポールが独立した際、早急に防衛力を構築する必要がありました。1968年、シンガポールはイスラエルから中古のフランス製AMX-13軽戦車を秘密裏に購入しました。1969年のナショナル・デー・パレードでこれらの車両が登場したときは、国民を驚かせました。
この戦車は軽量な車体と、珍しい上下2分割式の揺動砲塔が特徴でした。その後、シンガポールの技術者が、冷戦時代を通して国を守るために、近代的なディーゼルエンジン、新しい履帯、より優れた照準コンピュータを備えたAMX-13 SM1へとアップグレードしました。
