- Writing implements
Historical context
Following the Partitions of Poland in the 18th century, Poland ceased to exist as a sovereign state for 123 years. During WWI, Polish citizens were conscripted into the armies of Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Russia. The Polish Legions were formed under Józef Piłsudski, aiming to restore independence by leveraging the war's instability.

Discussion questions
- What visual cues in the video help explain that Poland did not exist on the map?
- Is it possible to be 'historically accurate' in only ten seconds? Why or why not?
- How does the choice of music and pacing influence our emotional response to the history?
Extension task
Draft a script for a second 10-second video explaining the role of Józef Piłsudski, ensuring you focus on one core fact that would make a viewer want to click 'learn more'.
Support prompts
- If you are stuck, list all the countries that controlled Polish territory in 1914.
- Think about the difference between a 'fact' and a 'narrative' in digital media.
- Look at the symbols used in the video; do they help clarify the message or confuse it?
