History
The award began in 1878 as a medal created by Prince Carol I to reward reliable work. In 1932, King Carol II expanded it into the National Order of Faithful Service so that officers could also receive high-ranking honors for long and faithful devotion.
During World War II, a wartime division with swords recognized soldiers who carried out vital support, logistical, and defensive duties under hazardous conditions. Banned in 1947 by the communist regime, the modern Romanian government brought it back in 2000 as the nation's second-highest national order.
