History
The Cuban government created the Order of Antonio Maceo on December 10, 1979. It was named in honor of General Antonio Maceo, a famous nineteenth-century hero known as the Bronze Titan.
This award was built to honor military commanders and units that showed remarkable skill and tactical brilliance during operations. It gave the Cuban Revolutionary Armed Forces a dedicated leadership decoration like older historical orders.
During Cuba's missions in Africa in the 1980s, officers who planned successful maneuvers were decorated with this order. It is also awarded to entire military colleges and combat divisions.
