History
The Military Bravery Medal was instituted to honor acts of raw bravery on the battlefield that exceed the normal call of duty. Established under Kuwait's post-independence defense codes, it became the country's dedicated gallantry decoration for soldiers under fire.
During combat deployments, including the 1967 and 1973 Arab-Israeli wars where Kuwaiti expeditionary forces served, individual soldiers showed bravery defending their positions. Later, during the 1990 invasion and the fighting to reclaim Kuwait, soldiers performed acts of heroism trying to hold off opposing armor and aircraft.
The medal can be awarded with combat emblems or palm devices to indicate repeat acts of courage. It holds a sacred place in Kuwaiti military history because it honors direct sacrifice in dangerous situations.
