History
The Canadian Korea Medal was established in 1951. Originally, Commonwealth soldiers were to receive a British medal, but Canada chose to issue a unique Canadian version carrying the Latin inscription for Queen Elizabeth II.
The medal is made of bronze and displays the reigning monarch on the front. The reverse features two fighting figures representing good triumphing over evil, standing above the word Korea.
More than 25,000 Canadians served in the Korean War on land, in the air, and at sea. This medal remains an important symbol of Canada's quick response to defend South Korea under the United Nations.
