History
The Wehrmacht was created in 1935 to replace Germany's older military structure. It was built to be a massive force capable of fighting large wars. The leadership aimed to use new technology to move troops very quickly.
At the start of World War II, the Wehrmacht used a strategy called blitzkrieg, which means lightning war. This involved tanks, planes, and infantry working together to strike fast and break through enemy lines.
They conquered much of Europe in the early years of the war. However, they eventually faced major setbacks after invading the Soviet Union and fighting on many fronts at once. The war became too difficult to win.
By 1945, the Wehrmacht was exhausted and defeated. Germany surrendered, and the force was disbanded completely by the Allied powers. Today, Germany has a different military structure that focuses on defense and alliances.
