History
The Tenth Army was formed in 1944 to help win the war in the Pacific. It was designed to lead large attacks against the Japanese forces. It was a mix of Army soldiers and Marines working together.
The most famous mission for this group was the invasion of Okinawa. This was a huge battle that lasted for many months. The Tenth Army had to fight on land while facing attacks from the air and the sea. It was a very difficult campaign for everyone involved.
After the battle ended, the Tenth Army was planned to take part in the final invasion of Japan. However, the war ended before that happened. The unit was eventually deactivated. It holds a place in history for being the last major field army created by the United States during the war.
