History
The US II Corps was a large unit that helped coordinate several divisions. It was one of the first major American formations to see heavy combat against German forces during the North African campaign.
After gaining experience in Africa, the corps played a vital role in the invasion of Sicily. The soldiers moved quickly across the island, which helped the Allies secure it as a base for further attacks on mainland Europe.
In Italy, the II Corps faced some of the toughest fighting of the war. They took part in the long and difficult battle for Monte Cassino and the push to liberate Rome from enemy control.
By the end of the war, the II Corps had earned a reputation for being a tough and reliable fighting force. Its successes were a key part of the Allied strategy to defeat Germany.
