History
The 12th Armored Division was created to help the American army win the war in Europe. They were known as the Hellcats. The soldiers trained hard with tanks and other armored vehicles to prepare for battle.
They arrived in France in late 1944. The division was part of the push across Europe to stop the German army. They moved very quickly and helped capture many towns and villages from the enemy.
During the spring of 1945, the division crossed the Rhine River. They played a big part in the final push into Germany. Their fast movement with tanks helped break enemy lines and end the fighting in that area.
After the war, the division was deactivated. Many of the men went home to their families as heroes. The division is remembered for its bravery and speed in liberating lands during the final months of the war.
