History
The First Army was created in 1918 to help the United States fight in France during World War I. General John J. Pershing led this group during its first big battle. It was a very large and important part of the American military team. After the war ended, the unit became smaller for a long time. When World War II started, the First Army grew again. It was the main group that led the D-Day invasion of Normandy. General Omar Bradley was in charge of this group during the fight to free France from Germany. The First Army pushed forward through many tough battles. They were one of the first groups to reach the German border. The soldiers were known for their hard work and bravery. After the war, the First Army stayed active to help train other soldiers. Today, the First Army focuses on training National Guard and Reserve units to make sure they are ready if the country needs them. It has changed a lot since its start, but it remains a key part of the United States military family.
