History
The 11th Armored Division was formed in 1942. They were called the Thunderbolts. Their main equipment was tanks and armored cars which helped them move very fast across the ground. After training in the United States, they were sent to Europe to join the fight against Germany. They arrived late in 1944. Their first major challenge was the Battle of the Bulge. The weather was very cold and the fighting was fierce. The 11th Armored helped stop the German attack. After that, they pushed deep into Germany. They were involved in many battles as the Allies moved toward victory. One of the most important things they did was help free people held in Nazi concentration camps near the end of the war. This was a very sad and difficult task for the soldiers. The division returned home after the war and was turned into a training group. They left a strong mark on history for their speed and strength in the face of a tough enemy.
