History
The Red Army began after the Russian Revolution in 1918. It was the official military force of the new Soviet state. Over many years, it grew into a massive army with millions of soldiers and many tanks.
During World War II, the Red Army was the main force fighting Germany in the East. It faced very hard battles at places like Stalingrad. Even though they lost many people, they pushed the German army all the way back to Berlin.
After the war, the Red Army stayed very powerful during the Cold War. It was later renamed the Soviet Army. It existed until the Soviet Union broke apart in 1991. Its legacy is seen in the many military traditions kept by countries that were once part of the Soviet union.
