History
The Red Army was formed after the Russian Revolution in 1917. It grew quickly to become one of the largest armies in the world. Its soldiers came from many different places. In the early days, they fought to control the country. When World War II started, the Red Army had to face a massive invasion by Germany. The beginning of the war was very hard for the Soviet soldiers. They lost many men and much equipment in the first few months. However, they did not give up. They worked hard to build more tanks and planes. The Red Army eventually stopped the German advance at the Battle of Stalingrad. This was a turning point in the war. From then on, the Red Army began to push the German forces back toward Berlin. The fighting was long and very bloody across Eastern Europe. After the war, the Red Army became the Soviet Army and stayed very large during the Cold War. It was known for having many tanks and a strong focus on land power.
