History
The Southwestern Front was a big command used by the Soviet Union to organize its army. It was made up of many smaller armies that worked together to stop the enemy. During the war, this group was responsible for guarding a very long and important area of the country. Their work was vital to keeping the country safe during the darkest days of the conflict. The soldiers in this front fought some of the biggest battles in history. They had to deal with very cold winters and intense fighting. Most of the time, they were in the middle of massive tank battles or defending important cities. The commanders had to make hard choices about when to attack and when to pull back to stay alive. The front changed often as new soldiers and weapons were sent to help the effort. Eventually, the group was successful in pushing the enemy back toward their own borders. After the war was won, the army structure was reorganized into peacetime units. Their legacy is remembered for the courage shown by the millions of soldiers who served in these groups.
