History

Prison camp staff members were responsible for the daily running of the detention centers. They handled things like feeding the prisoners, managing the camp supplies, and keeping records. Their main goal was to make sure the camp rules were followed at all times.

These staff members were often older soldiers or those who could not fight on the front lines. They worked in offices, in the kitchen, or as guards. Their duties were quite varied, ranging from checking mail to making sure the grounds were secure from any unauthorized visitors.

It was a difficult job to manage thousands of people who were often hungry or angry. The staff was under a lot of pressure from their own leaders to prevent any escapes. When the war ended, most of the staff members were taken prisoner themselves or returned home as the military structures collapsed in 1945.
