History

The regiment was formed in 1881 as part of big changes to the British Army. It was made by joining two older regiments together to serve the city of Manchester. They recruited many soldiers from the local area to help guard the British Empire. During the early 1900s, the unit grew and prepared for large conflicts. Soldiers were trained to be strong and loyal infantrymen who could fight in many different environments. They wore special badges and took great pride in the city they represented. The unit fought through the trenches of the First World War and later served in many places during the Second World War. Their soldiers were known for being tough in battle. After many years of service, the regiment was eventually combined with other units to form new groups in the 1950s. This ended their long history as a separate Manchester group, but their story is still remembered by many people in England today.
