History
The Imperial Japanese Army was created in the late 1800s. It was based on models from Western countries like Germany. The army grew to become a very powerful force that believed in strict discipline and loyalty to the Emperor of Japan.
During the early 1900s, the army expanded Japan's territory by fighting wars in China and Russia. They were a major force during World War II, invading many countries across Asia and the Pacific. The soldiers were known for being very tough and fighting in difficult jungles and on islands.
By the end of World War II, the army suffered many losses. After Japan surrendered in 1945, the Imperial Japanese Army was completely dissolved. A new group called the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force was created later to handle the country's defense needs.
