History
The Abwehr was the branch of the German military focused on gathering secrets. During the years leading up to World War II, they worked to spy on neighboring countries and watch for possible threats to the German government.
During the war, their job was to collect data about the armies they were fighting. They set up spy networks in different countries and used radio messages to send information back to headquarters. Some of these spies were caught by the Allies.
The organization also spent a lot of time trying to find and stop spies from the Allied countries who were working inside German territory. It was a constant game of cat and mouse that lasted until the end of the conflict.
By the time the war ended in 1945, the organization was broken up and its leaders were removed. Its history serves as a reminder of the dangerous world of secret missions and military espionage during the twentieth century.
