History
The 101st SS Heavy Panzer Battalion was created in 1943. It was part of the Waffen-SS, which was the fighting wing of the Nazi Party. This unit was special because it was equipped with heavy Tiger tanks. These tanks were very strong and had big guns that could hit targets from far away. The battalion was sent to many different parts of the front lines to stop Allied attacks. They fought in Russia and later in France after the Allies landed on the beaches of Normandy. Their main role was to act as a fire brigade, moving quickly to stop breaks in the front line. Because they fought in the most dangerous areas, they lost many tanks and soldiers. By the end of the war, the unit was heavily damaged and retreated into Germany. It was eventually broken up and the remaining soldiers were captured.
