History
British intelligence is divided into two main groups. MI5 works inside the country to stop enemy spies and threats. MI6 works outside the country to collect secret information from other nations. During World War II, these groups were very important. They found German spies who were hiding in Britain and turned them around to feed false information back to Germany. This was called the Double Cross System. They also cracked secret codes, which helped the Allied leaders know where the enemy ships and planes were going. Their work was kept very secret, and most people did not know what they were doing at the time. After the war, these agencies continued to help protect the country. Today, they remain active in keeping the United Kingdom safe from modern threats, working with other agencies around the world to find information.
