History
The British Indian Expeditionary Force was a large army sent from India to fight for the British Empire. Many of these soldiers came from regions that were part of British India at the time. They were well-trained and ready to fight far away from their homes.
When World War I started in 1914, Britain needed help. They called upon their colonies, and India sent many brave men. These soldiers arrived in Europe and were quickly sent to the front lines in France and Belgium. They helped stop the German army from moving forward.
Besides Europe, these soldiers also fought in places like Mesopotamia, which is modern-day Iraq. The climate there was very hot and sandy, making it a very difficult place to fight. The soldiers had to carry heavy gear and move across long, dry deserts.
By the end of the war, the force had fought in many different countries. They proved that soldiers from all over the world could work together. Their service changed the world and showed how connected different countries were during this big conflict.
