History
The Axis Powers were a military alliance formed by Germany, Italy, and Japan before and during World War II. These countries wanted to gain more land and influence across the world. They signed treaties promising to help each other if they were attacked by other nations. The leaders of these countries aimed to take control over large parts of Europe and Asia. For a few years, they had many military successes in various places. They fought on many fronts and caused the war to spread to almost every part of the globe. However, they faced many problems over time. The Allies were able to produce more weapons and had more soldiers to fight the war. As the Allied forces grew stronger, the Axis countries began to lose control of the land they had captured. One by one, the main members were defeated. Italy surrendered first, followed by Germany, and finally Japan. The loss of the Axis Powers led to a major change in how countries interacted after 1945. The alliance ended completely once all three nations had been defeated by the Allied forces.
