History
The 82nd Airborne Division was first formed during World War I. It became an airborne division in 1942. This meant the soldiers were trained to jump out of moving airplanes with parachutes to land behind enemy lines.
During World War II, the division played a huge part in the D-Day invasion of France. Soldiers jumped into the dark night to secure roads and bridges for the main army. They also fought in the Netherlands and the Battle of the Bulge.
After the war, the division stayed very active. It has been sent to many parts of the world to help in different missions. Today, the 82nd Airborne is still ready to jump into action whenever the country needs them to help.
