History
The 2nd Canadian Division was created in 1915 as part of the Canadian Expeditionary Force. It joined the 1st Canadian Division in France to fight against the Central Powers. The soldiers were eager to help their country and support their allies in the fight for peace.
The division saw its first big test in 1916. The soldiers had to deal with the mud and cold of the trenches. They fought very hard in the Battle of the Somme. Even though the fighting was very scary and tough, the men stayed strong and worked together to hold their ground.
In the final years of the war, the 2nd Division helped lead the way during the Hundred Days Offensive. They were part of a team that pushed the enemy back. When the war ended, the division was broken up. Many of the soldiers went home, but their bravery in the war remained a famous part of the story of Canada.
