History

The 23rd Headquarters Special Troops was formed in 1944. Its job was to use deception to protect American soldiers from enemy attacks. They used inflatable tanks and fake radio signals to trick the enemy. By acting like a much larger force, they helped save many lives by drawing fire away from real troops. Their work was kept secret for many years after the war ended. The unit successfully performed many missions across Europe. They showed how creative thinking could change the outcome of battles.
