History

The 1st Cavalry Division is a historic Army group that has changed how it fights over many years. Originally, they were soldiers on horses who fought in early American conflicts. By the time of the war in Vietnam, they had stopped using horses and started using helicopters. This made them a brand new kind of unit called an airmobile division. They could pick up soldiers from a base and fly them deep into the jungle to fight enemies. This changed the way the Army fought because it made them much faster than they used to be. Because they could move so quickly, they were involved in many important battles across the country. The soldiers of the 1st Cavalry were known for their skill in landing in tough spots and fighting in dense forests. Even after the war, the unit stayed an important part of the US Army. They continue to train for new kinds of challenges while keeping their proud history alive as a fast-moving combat team.
