History
In the years before World War II, France designed the Somua S35 to serve as a fast combat vehicle for cavalry units. It was protected by strong, cast-metal armor plates joined together, making it one of the toughest armored vehicles of 1940.
During the Battle of France, the S35 surprised enemy tank crews because its front armor could stop most light anti-tank shells. However, its small turret forced the commander to spot targets, aim the main gun, and communicate all alone, which made running the tank exhausting in battle.
