History
The Browning M1919 was an air-cooled machine gun originally designed near the end of World War I. By the middle of the twentieth century, it was one of the most common support weapons used by Western armies.
Colombian troops received M1919A4 machine guns while fighting with the United Nations in the Korean War. Crews set up the weapon on a low tripod to lay down suppressive fire against enemy assaults. It helped protect Colombian defensive perimeters from being overrun at night.
During the Cold War, the Colombian armed forces mounted these machine guns onto jeeps, trucks, and small river patrol boats. Its dependable mechanical design kept it in service for several decades.
