History
The Eurofighter Typhoon project began in the 1980s as a way for Germany, the UK, Italy, and Spain to build a great jet together. They wanted a plane that could fly very high and very fast to protect the skies. It finally started flying for the air force in the early 2000s.
The plane is famous for its 'canard' wings, which are small extra wings near the front of the plane. These help the pilot make sharp turns during air-to-air combat. Its engines are also very powerful, allowing it to climb straight up into the clouds very quickly.
Today, the Typhoon is the main protector of German airspace. It spends most of its time flying patrols to make sure other planes follow the rules. It is a central part of how Germany keeps its people safe from threats in the air.
