History

After World War II, the French military needed an agile tank light enough to travel by transport aircraft. Designers engineered the AMX-13 with an oscillating turret that moved up and down to aim the gun.

Because of its mechanical autoloader, the tank fired very rapidly without needing a dedicated human loader. The AMX-13 served for over thirty years throughout the Cold War and was exported worldwide. French and foreign forces deployed it across various battlegrounds, including conflicts in Southeast Asia and the Middle East.
